Riley Strain, a 22-year-old University of Missouri student, was remembered by family and friends during a memorial service in his hometown of Springfield, Missouri. He was found dead in Nashville's Cumberland River one week after going missing. The funeral had music that brought back memories for Strain's family and friends. Joey Cockell, Strain's high school friend, also spoke during the service.
"Riley taught me to stay present, don't overthink. Be in the moment, and the rest will follow. ‘‘Riley was always a source of smiles,’’ said Cockell. ‘‘I can't express how much I miss his voice.’‘ Without Riley, I'm lost.
Last seen at a Broadway bar in Tennessee, according to the Nashville PD. He was asked to leave Luke Bryan's restaurant and bar, Luke's 32 Bridge Food + Drink, according to a statement from TC Restaurant Group. Strain later appeared on surveillance cameras interacting with a police officer, walking towards a bridge.
Police said the early autopsy found no signs of foul play, suggesting that Strain's death was accidental. His family described the experience as an emotional rollercoaster. Michelle Whiteid, Strain's mother, urged mothers to hug their babies tightly tonight.
Strain was deeply caring about the community and environment, as mentioned in his obituary. "The tribute mentioned that he valued family time and creating lasting memories. Riley Strain's absence will be deeply felt, but his joyful outlook on life and the happiness he brought to others will always be remembered."
