Prince Harry Abandons UK Residency, Designates United States as His 'New Country'

Prince Harry now calls the US his primary residence after leaving the royal family in 2020. He recently updated his housing records to reflect this change. Although submitted on Wednesday, the documents from Companies House for Harry's eco-travel project, Travalyst, indicated a "date of change" as June 29, 2023. This aligns with Harry and Meghan Markle's departure from their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, on June 28, following their eviction by King Charles III three months earlier. Unclear if Harry renouncing British residency will affect titles. Might discuss with father in London next month.

Despite legal change, he considers UK home but forced to flee to US for safety. "The UK is crucial to my children's heritage and I want them to feel at home here like they do in the US," said the duke in court while seeking taxpayer-funded police security, a request that was denied. "However, this is only possible if their safety can be ensured on UK soil." The red-headed royal has considered getting American citizenship, but it is not a top priority at the moment. Harry and Markle have been in California with their two children for four years and they plan to stay there for some time.

“It's amazing," Harry said about living on the West Coast. "I enjoy every day, but it's not easy for the prince who openly shared his past drug use in his memoir 'Spare'." In a popular book, Harry confessed to substance abuse and experimentation. Legal experts disagree on the potential consequences for his visa, suggesting his current US status remains relatively safe unless he encounters additional legal issues. “Without criminal charges or a judicial finding of drug use, Prince Harry's disclosures in his memoir about recreational drug experimentation pose no issues,” said immigration attorney James Leonard.

It is unclear if Harry needs to give up his royal titles for citizenship. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires the Duke of Sussex to renounce his title of nobility, as stated in their policy called “Renunciation of Title or Order of Nobility”. This policy is listed under the “Oath of Allegiance” to the United States. “The applicant must publicly renounce the title in a recorded ceremony, which could be a dealbreaker for the producer, given his new website focused on his royal connections."
